Bar Manager Wanted!

Marrickville Golf Club is looking for a full-time bar manager to join our team!

As our members and many of our regular visitors know, we're a gambling-free venue, no poker machines, TAB or Keno, and we don't trade late. The golf course is open to the public as well as members, and the Clubhouse has become a genuinely popular community destination, especially for families on weekends. Bar trade has grown considerably over the past couple of years, and we need someone to step up and lead the team in a full-time capacity.

We already have a great crew of casual staff, currently led by Orion as acting bar manager, so you'll be inheriting a solid foundation. This is very much a hands-on role: the manager will be expected to work behind the bar for four or five shifts a week, including weekends and busy weeknights, and to be available to respond to messages and queries from casual staff on duty.

Beyond bar shifts, the manager will work closely with General Manager Mat Ward and the Wharf St Kitchen team, Dave and Josh, as part of the senior management group, contributing to the broader running of Clubhouse operations.

There's also an exciting (if disruptive) period ahead: thanks to a $6 million Commonwealth Government grant, significant building works will be underway at the Club over the coming years, including a full renovation of the Clubhouse and bar. Helping to prepare for these works and keeping operations running smoothly during construction will be a key focus for the whole management team. Once the renovations are complete, the Club will be an even better community hub and destination for golf, functions and casual dining.

Responsibilities:

  • To be available to work on a rostered basis covering all 7 days of the week;

  • To regularly work on weekends and on evenings, especially on busy occasions;

  • To work behind the bar at least 25 hours per week on average;

  • To always be available to respond to communications from casual bar staff and management, especially requests for guidance or direction;

  • To maintain professional standards of appearance and conduct and to ensure that casual and other staff under your direction do likewise;

  • To recruit, train and oversee new bar staff to appropriate professional standards;

  • To make a key contribution the meeting of KPI targets such as bar sales volumes, wage-to-sales ratio, bar GP.

  • Bar rostering,

  • Supervision of a team of 7 or 8 casual bar staff,

  • Monitoring child behaviour and responsible parental supervision in kids play and al fresco areas,

  • Stock control and ordering,

  • Upkeep of the POS system (SwiftPOS)

  • Liaison with bistro and pro shop staff regarding functions and golf events.

Remuneration:

This is a salaried position under the Registered Clubs Award with 5 weeks annual leave. Salary level to be determined subject to candidates skills and experience.

If you think you would be a good fit for the role, please reach out to us at office@marrickvillegolf.com.au

We look forward to hearing from you!
